How to elevate your cycling facilities

Cycling facilities are one of the most important amenities in our buildings and on our sites to promote wellbeing.

Cycle parking should be near the premises, easy to reach, covered, secure and well designed. If there is nowhere outside to build a shelter, there may be somewhere indoors that could be converted into lockable bike storage. Wall hooks are good space-savers inside or outside.

How can I elevate my cycling facilities?

Think about the bike parking solutions used to make the most of the space. Also consider storage for folding bikes, which is a more secure way to lock them.

Adding secure lockers for cyclists to leave their personal belongings makes it more convenient to start cycling to work.

Provide shower rooms for your occupiers to use after they have cycled in.

Add a bike maintenance station and if there is sufficient space, consider a washing station so cyclists can clean down their bikes. If you don’t have much space, you could provide consumables to use in case of emergency such as puncture repair kits, inner tubes, etc.

Add an automated door on entry to your cycling facility. It makes it easier to get bikes through and also minimises the risk of scratches and damage to the door.

Add a tablet with software or an app, such as Park Tool app, which guides and assists occupiers with problems with their bike e.g replacing a part.
